Chez le Pré: a lovely vacation for nature-lovers and fans of the outdoors, the arts, culture and hearty French family life

Chez le Pré is a nice, big, renovated farmhouse on a hill in the country, near the village of Trézelles. Trézelles is located in the foothills of the Montagne Bourbonnaise, in the department Allier, 350 km South East of Paris.

Chez le Pré is, except for a complete holiday, also a lovely place to stay for an overnight.
In the European vacations we offer art-workshops, camping facilities and B&B. The house

The house

lies on 2 ha of land, with fields, gardens and a 5m Ø swimming pool. The house is set up for 12 guests.

Bed &Breakfast.

We offer B&B (2p  € 60)) in 3 bedrooms with 2 one-person beds and in an independant  appartment (see below) with 4 single beds and a 2p bedbench. The main room has a large dining table, a terrace with a brick barbecue, a living room with tv, a sitting area with a large working fireplace, a bar, French doors to the backyard terrace and the swimming pool, open for our guests.

The gîte

The (4 people) appartment (€410/w) has on the groundfloor a kitchenette, a bathroom and in the drawingroom a bedbench, table and chairs, tv-corner and a 4p bedroom upstairs. It is possible to rent an extra 2p room (€120/w), next to the 4p room.

Minicamping

We offer 9 nice places (with electricity) for camping (tent, car, 2p € 17,50/n). You can choose your place with a wonderfull view over the valley.  Two  brandnew bathrooms were made last year, outside there you find also warm and cold water for your dishes. We have a large, good equipped tent (4p) for rent € 320/w.

What can you do?

As a vacation spot you will find the perfect place to read, relax, enjoy the arts, enjoy the scenery. The pool, the pond-side or the old oaks are perfect places to lay about and just relax. Besides relaxing you can explore the area, absorb the atmosphere and enjoy yourselves with us.

Workshops

We offer yoga (€10 / lesson), sculpting(€150 / 6 lessons, €10 /h) and ceramics (€95 /5 lessons) workshops in mai, june, july and august. After lunch you could (if you like) do ceramics workshop and learn to express the inner you. The teachers are qualified and experienced. Small groups with their own teacher can arrange themselves their own workshops, renting the house or/and campground.

There is always something to explore and do. The house has plenty projects you can help realise: it is surrounded by 2 hectares of vegetable garden and pastures ready for re-development. There is a rustic outdoor barbecue / fireplace that not only cooks well, but can be quite comfortable on the cooler nights outside.

The surroundings

The house is located in the central hills of the Bourbonnaise. The area is criss-crossed with small country roads, great for riding bikes, or just trekking, it serves as a great opportunity to see the scenic hills of the North Auvergne.
Nearby, in Trézelles, at about 5 km distance, there is a bakery, which provides much of the summer bread for us, a barber, a post-office, a restaurant and a supermarket. There is a tenniscourt and a very beautiful public campground, along the Besbre River, which is ideal for fishing, swimming and canoeing.
The town of Lapalisse you can find at 8 km away. You can find there a big castle with convent and chapel, a museum of modern art and all the required amenities. Every Thursday there is an open-air market with great French cheeses, and next to the market there is a truly outstanding baker.

Sight seeing

Within 100 km there is a lot to explore: woods and volcans, hills, mountains, lakes and rivers and a lot of castles with beautiful gardens and picturesque old towns. Nearby is the Montagne Bourbonnaise with le Mayet-en-Montagne and Chatel-en-Montagne with its beautiful old church and a lot of art shops and -studio 's; certainly worth the trouble of getting there.
At 20 km there is Vichy, with the past glory of the mondaine thermal bathhouses.
Farther off there are some larger and scenic places: Moulins and Thiers; along with Clermont-Ferrand with its picturesque volcanic area. Some of the smaller, closer places are also quite interesting: Jaligny, Varennes, Montaigue-le-Blin, Le Donjon and Digoin, Charroux: all worth visiting. The Loire is not far, the route is very scenic.

Famous wines

The nearby Côte Roannaise is like st Pourçain, a small and quaint wine area that produces a good table wine. The famous wine area's of Sancerre, Pouilly-fumé Chablis and the Bourgogne are not far (100km).
